Hohenzollern Castle

Hohenzollern Castle

Hohenzollern Castle towers over the landscape from the top of Mount Hohenzollern. This fairytale castle is one of the most visited castles in Europe. Located just 65 km (40 miles) away from Stuttgart, it’s well worth a trip.

The site has been host to a series of residences as the ancestral home of an incredibly influential dynasty: the imperial House of Hohenzollern were Brandenburg-Prussian rulers, Prussian kings and German emperors. The first stone was laid over 1,000 years ago, but the castle was in ruins when Crown Prince Friedrich Wilhelm of Prussia visited the hill in 1819. Visitors today see the “new” building he reconstructed in the 19th century.

Hohenzollern Castle is one of three castles located on three nearby peaks. Be sure to visit the second mountain to get an amazing view of Hohenzollern!
