This is the offi­cial app for Verkehrs- und Tar­ifver­bund Stuttgart, the local pub­lic trans­porta­tion net­work. It offers infor­ma­tion on local U‑Bahn, S‑Bahn, and bus sched­ules, allow­ing you to plan a trip between two address­es, see which trains will be arriv­ing and depart­ing soon from a near­by sta­tion, and even save favorite trips for faster search­es. You can also buy tick­ets in the app for con­ve­nience on the go.

This mobil­i­ty app helps you find the best way to your intend­ed des­ti­na­tion at night by com­bin­ing infor­ma­tion about trains, bus­es, and the shut­tle routes offered as an exten­sion to the Stuttgart pub­lic trans­porta­tion net­work. By enter­ing your start and end points, the app will show you the best route, includ­ing where a shut­tle will pick you up and drop you off. The app is free to use but the shared shut­tle rides do involve a charge, which is dis­count­ed for hold­ers of a valid VVS ticket.

The FREE NOW app is a col­lab­o­ra­tion between BMW and Daim­ler. When you order a taxi, you can watch its progress live on a dig­i­tal map, plus you get a push mes­sage when the dri­ver arrives out­side your door. You can con­tact the dri­ver at any time and rate the jour­ney after you arrive at your des­ti­na­tion. You pay for your ride through your smart­phone and receive a receipt by email.

Ride Sharing

Uber had a long bat­tle to be allowed in Ger­many, and it func­tions today with cer­tain restric­tions: Uber dri­vers can’t dri­ve their per­son­al cars, only reg­is­tered com­pa­ny rentals, and they have to be licensed like a taxi dri­ver. The user expe­ri­ence is much the same, how­ev­er, with options to select a stan­dard Uber X, a ful­ly elec­tric Uber Green, or a reg­u­lar taxi through Uber Taxi. Set your pick-up point or let your GPS pin it for you then type in your des­ti­na­tion. See how far the clos­est ride is and con­firm to see the pro­file, rat­ing, and license plate of the dri­ver. You’ll receive a noti­fi­ca­tion when the dri­ver arrives and you can con­tact them if need­ed. Pay­ment is via Pay­Pal or cred­it card.

So far in Stuttgart they only offer two-wheeled trans­porta­tion: elec­tric scoot­ers. While the app infor­ma­tion focus­es on ride shar­ing, once you set your loca­tion in the app, it will show you scoot­er options instead.

Circ is one of sev­er­al elec­tric scoot­er com­pa­nies oper­at­ing in Stuttgart. You can look for near­by scoot­ers on the in-app map. You only need to scan a QR code to begin your ride, and you have com­plete flex­i­bil­i­ty to leave the scoot­er out­side at your destination.
