The Christ­mas mar­ket in the cen­ter of Esslin­gen is very unique and a won­der­ful expe­ri­ence since it’s also a medieval mar­ket. Esslin­gen is a well-known medieval town, but in the month before Christ­mas it seems to trav­el back 600 years in time to the Mid­dle Ages. In addi­tion to the usu­al mulled wine, roast­ed chest­nuts, gin­ger­bread, and Christ­mas orna­ment stands, there is a won­drous array of medieval prod­ucts and activities.

Sur­round­ed by the his­toric half-tim­bered build­ings of Esslin­gen, you can mar­vel at per­for­mances by jug­glers, fire-eaters, sto­ry­tellers and musi­cians. Join in the fun and learn a medieval dance or try your hand at archery. There’s even an entire sec­tion filled with medieval-style car­ni­val games, which kids will love. Crafts­man cre­ate and sell pewter dish­es, hand-made brooms, and cus­tom-blown glass that make for unique gifts. No won­der so many peo­ple trav­el to Esslin­gen dur­ing the four weeks of the market!
