Getting Around Stuttgart
We’ve tried to take the guesswork out of transportation apps by grouping our favorites by category. You can also read our blog post covering the many ways of getting around Stuttgart.
Urbi
This mobility app aggregates a variety of means of transportation in order to make it easy for you to plan your trip from point A to point B. It presents public transportation, car sharing, and bicycle or scooter rental options. Examine your options in one convenient tool!
Public Transportation
Stuttgart has a very extensive public transportation network that includes buses, underground trains, overground trains, and regional trains. The city is also well connected by train to destinations all over Germany and Europe. You can learn more by reading our post about public transportation.
VVS
This is the official app for Verkehrs- und Tarifverbund Stuttgart, the local public transportation network. It offers information on local U‑Bahn, S‑Bahn, and bus schedules, allowing you to plan a trip between two addresses, see which trains will be arriving and departing soon from a nearby station, and even save favorite trips for faster searches. You can also buy tickets in the app for convenience on the go.
SSB Flex
This mobility app helps you find the best way to your intended destination at night by combining information about trains, buses, and the shuttle routes offered as an extension to the Stuttgart public transportation network. By entering your start and end points, the app will show you the best route, including where a shuttle will pick you up and drop you off. The app is free to use but the shared shuttle rides do involve a charge, which is discounted for holders of a valid VVS ticket.
DB Navigator
This app provides information on Deutsche Bahn tickets and schedules for trains around Germany and across Europe. With a registered account, you can purchase tickets and store them for easy presentation to conductors. The app also offers notifications about any delays or changes in your route.

FREE NOW
The FREE NOW app is a collaboration between BMW and Daimler. When you order a taxi, you can watch its progress live on a digital map, plus you get a push message when the driver arrives outside your door. You can contact the driver at any time and rate the journey after you arrive at your destination. You pay for your ride through your smartphone and receive a receipt by email.
Stuttgart Taxi
Stuttgart Taxi App focuses specifically on taxi service in our city and the surrounding area. It’s essentially the digital version of calling a dispatcher for every local taxi company, without the awkwardness of trying to make yourself understood in German. In fact, you can even request an English-speaking driver!
Ride Sharing
Uber
Uber had a long battle to be allowed in Germany, and it functions today with certain restrictions: Uber drivers can’t drive their personal cars, only registered company rentals, and they have to be licensed like a taxi driver. The user experience is much the same, however, with options to select a standard Uber X, a fully electric Uber Green, or a regular taxi through Uber Taxi. Set your pick-up point or let your GPS pin it for you then type in your destination. See how far the closest ride is and confirm to see the profile, rating, and license plate of the driver. You’ll receive a notification when the driver arrives and you can contact them if needed. Payment is via PayPal or credit card.
Car Sharing
SHARE NOW
SHARE NOW (formerly car2go and DriveNow) offers a more flexible car sharing experience. Search the app for the nearest car of your preferred type. When you’re finished, just park it in a suitable spot on the street. The price is a flat rate per minute which you confirm before completing your reservation.
Stadtmobil
This car sharing app offers a large number of rental stations in Stuttgart and the surrounding area. Rental charges depend on the length of time booked and the number of kilometers driven
Bicycles & Scooters
Bolt
Bolt is a mobility company that in some places offers ride sharing and rental cars as well as grocery and food delivery. So far in Stuttgart they only offer two-wheeled transportation: electric scooters. While the app information focuses on ride sharing, once you set your location in the app, it will show you scooter options instead.
Circ
Circ is one of several electric scooter companies operating in Stuttgart. You can look for nearby scooters on the in-app map. You only need to scan a QR code to begin your ride, and you have complete flexibility to leave the scooter outside at your destination.
Lime
This app helps you find a Lime‑S (electric kick scooter) for short-term rental. Use the app’s map to locate one nearby and unlock it by scanning the code. There’s no need to worry about finding a parking station with their dock-free model. Your only responsibility is to park and lock your ride safely away from traffic.
Tier
Tier was the first micro-mobility company to become completely carbon neutral. They also prioritize the use of recycled materials. They offer electric scooters, which you can easily locate and unlock using the app.
VOI
VOI is all about electric scooters. You can use the app to locate a branded kick scooter near you. Unlock it by scanning the QR code and simply end the ride in the app when you’ve arrived at your destination.
Stella
Stella is a Stuttgart-specific “e‑roller” sharing service. Use the app to find one of their Vespa-like scooters and where to park it after you’re done driving. The service is available in Stuttgart and several surrounding towns. The scooters conveniently come with two helmets in two different sizes as well as hoods for hygiene.
Stuttgart Airport
Stuttgart Airport
The official app of Stuttgart Airport brings you all the information you need to make your trip simple, whether you’re the one flying or just picking someone up. You can find out about flight times and delays, which terminal your airline operates from, arrival and departure gates, and even the current wait time at each security checkpoint. You can also opt to enable notifications to stay up to date about a particular flight.
Food Ordering
Lieferando
This food ordering app works with all kinds of restaurants, from full-service dining establishments to faster food options, like delivery-only restaurants. You can search by type of cuisine, hours open, estimated delivery time and cost, and the minimum purchase value.
Uber Eats
Whether you are looking for a quick meal, a tasty treat, or groceries on demand, this food ordering app offers you a variety of options. You can order from all types of restaurants and grocery stores, searching for something specific or browsing by category. You can also check out special offers and deals. Delivery fees and estimated times are displayed for you, and you can check the progress of your delivery in real time. Alternatively, you can avoid fees by picking up your order in person, or else by subscribing to Uber One for unlimited delivery.
Wolt
Wolt offers a single platform for ordering food from local restaurants, supermarkets, and specialty food and beverage stores. You can choose between discovery mode, restaurants, and stores. Explore different categories, from expected ones like cuisines to nearest establishments, familiar brands, or places offering deals. Delivery fees and ratings are immediately visible for each place, and most menus include full lists of ingredients, ideal for people with allergies or dietary restrictions.
Flink
Flink is very similar to Gorillas, entering the market just one year later. You can shop by food category as with any food delivery app, but Flink also has some unique categories like “breakfast in bed” for when you just want to stay in and treat yourself, or “Stay Safe” for masks, rapid tests, and other hygienic supplies.
REWE
This app offers an online ordering system for groceries at REWE Supermarket. You can fill your cart by selecting from past orders or recommendations, search for items individually or by category, or choosing from this week’s discounted products. You have the option to pick up in the store or schedule your order for delivery right to your door.
Too Good To Go
This app helps you locate restaurants, bakeries, and markets that are selling discounted food that might otherwise be thrown out. You can search by location, type of seller, vegetarian options, and preferred pick-up time. You prepay and validate the order in the app, but the food must be picked up in person within the designated time window.
Shipping & Packages
Post & DHL
This app simplifies everything related to shipping and mailing with the Deutsche Post and DHL. Track packages that are on their way to you and change delivery options. Search for store locations as well as “Packstations,” automated booths where you can pick up packages around the clock. Check prices for shipping domestically or internationally. Purchase stamps or shipping for a letter or package to print at home or arrange for it to be ready to print out when you get to a post office or DHL store.
Waste & Recycling
AWS
This is the official app from Stuttgart’s waste management system, or “Abfallwirtschaft.” Use the “Waste ABCs” to figure out the correct disposal for a particular item or type of material. Keep up with the different pickup dates for the different types of waste, from paper to organic to yellow bag recycling to trash. There’s also an easy location search for disposal facilities and recycling centers.
Entertainment
Kino
This versatile app is the number one resource for movies in Germany. You can search showtimes for movies at nearby theaters and filter for various features like 2D or 3D and dubbed, original version or with subtitles. Learn more about films by browsing synopsises, trailers, stills, cast list, and so on. Plus, you can access the complete list of movies and TV series that are available from all streaming providers in Germany, including Netflix, Amazon, iTunes, Google Play, Sky, and more.
