This is the offi­cial app for Verkehrs- und Tar­ifver­bund Stuttgart, the local pub­lic trans­porta­tion net­work. It offers infor­ma­tion on local U‑Bahn, S‑Bahn, and bus sched­ules, allow­ing you to plan a trip between two address­es, see which trains will be arriv­ing and depart­ing soon from a near­by sta­tion, and even save favorite trips for faster search­es. The FREE NOW app is a col­lab­o­ra­tion between BMW and Daim­ler. When you order a taxi, you can watch its progress live on a dig­i­tal map, plus you get a push mes­sage when the dri­ver arrives out­side your door. You can con­tact the dri­ver at any time and rate the jour­ney after you arrive at your des­ti­na­tion. You pay for your ride through your smart­phone and receive a receipt by email.

Uber had a long bat­tle to be allowed in Ger­many, and it func­tions today with cer­tain restric­tions: Uber dri­vers can’t dri­ve their per­son­al cars, only reg­is­tered com­pa­ny rentals, and they have to be licensed like a taxi dri­ver. The user expe­ri­ence is much the same, how­ev­er, with options to select a stan­dard Uber X, a ful­ly elec­tric Uber Green, or a reg­u­lar taxi through Uber Taxi. Set your pick-up point or let your GPS pin it for you then type in your des­ti­na­tion. See how far the clos­est ride is and con­firm to see the pro­file, rat­ing, and license plate of the dri­ver. You’ll receive a noti­fi­ca­tion when the dri­ver arrives and you can con­tact them if need­ed. Pay­ment is via Pay­Pal or cred­it card.
